I am in a couple of Facebook wedding photographer groups and i have seen post from brides who have tricked, bamboozled and some just plain out lied to by wedding photographers. Before hiring a wedding photographer, it's crucial to ask some key questions to ensure they're the right fit for your special day. Here are some essential questions to consider:

Style and Experience

  • What is your photography style? Are you more interested in a traditional, documentary, or artistic approach?
  • How long have you been a wedding photographer? Experience can be a valuable indicator of their skills and knowledge.
  • Can you share examples of your work, especially weddings similar to ours? This will help you gauge if their style aligns with your vision.

Availability and Pricing

  • Are you available on our wedding date? Confirm their availability well in advance.
  • What is your pricing structure? Understand their fees, including any additional costs for albums, prints, or second shooters.
  • What is included in your wedding day coverage? Ask about the number of hours, locations, and any restrictions.

Communication and Workflow

  • How do you handle communication and planning? Ensure they have a clear process for planning and coordinating.
  • What is your approach to capturing candid moments? Do they use posing or a more natural style?
  • How do you handle unexpected situations or changes in the wedding day timeline? Be prepared for potential challenges.

Additional Considerations

  • Do you offer second shooters or assistants? This can be helpful for capturing multiple angles and details.
  • What is your backup plan in case of equipment failure? Ensure they have contingency plans in place for before during and after. 
  • Can you provide references from previous clients? Ask for recommendations to get a sense of their professionalism and quality of work.

By asking these questions, you can make an informed decision and find a wedding photographer who will capture your special day beautifully.
